Tribute to Owen Box, 1953 - 2025

Owen was a highly valued member of the Citizens Advice team who will be fondly remembered, and very much missed, by his friends and colleagues. He was a mainstay of our outreach service in Totnes, a gentle and caring man who could be depended upon to provide advice and guidance to local residents with good humour, kindness and a smile. Owen will be greatly missed for his warmth, compassion and gentle approach. A great loss not only to us, but also our clients.

I was very sorry to hear the sad news about the death of Owen. Owen was one of the people I helped start off in Citizens Advice, and through that I got to know him well. We soon established a shared bond through tennis, having played together a number of times, and also through our mutual interest in cricket and Somerset CC. in Taunton. I also became aware of the difficulties Owen faced with his hearing, particularly with phone calls and working in an open-plan office at Follaton House. I could relate to many of his experiences, as my wife wears hearing aids, so I understand the challenges this can bring in a working environment. It was reassuring to know that Owen was able to continue working in a quieter setting in a different role as an outreach worker. Please accept my sincere condolences. Owen was a valued colleague and will be fondly remembered.

It was such a pleasure to get to know Owen while occasionally helping him at the Citizens Advice Outreach sessions in Totnes. He was the mainstay of this support and always so very gentle and caring in his approach to others. In the quiet moments I learnt about his varied and interesting life and he was always ready with a smile and a laugh. He will be missed.

I am I and you are you, whatever we were to each other that we still are. Speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? Life means all that it ever meant, it is the same as it ever was.
